Overview
Agniswarar Temple in Kanjanur, near Kumbakonam, is the sixth of the Navagraha Sthalams, dedicated to Shiva as Agniswarar, worshipped alongside Parvati as Karpavalli Amman, with Sukra (Venus) understood in temple tradition to reside within the body of the Shiva idol itself.
History
The temple is attributed to the Medieval Cholas, with later renovation under the Vijayanagara Empire. It features a five-tier rajagopuram (entrance tower) surrounded by two prakarams (enclosed precincts).
