Meaning

Victory to the Lord of Girija, compassionate to the humble; ever the protector and nurturer of saints.

On his forehead the moon shines beautifully; in his ears, earrings made of the cobra's hood.

His body is fair, upon his head flows the Ganga; a garland of skulls, his body smeared with ash.

His garment is a tiger skin, beautifully worn; seeing his form, serpents and sages alike are enchanted.

Mother Maina's beloved daughter is seated at his left side, her unique beauty adorning it.

The trident in his hand shines with immense splendour; ever the destroyer of enemies.

Nandi and Ganesh shine there in such a way, as if a lotus in the midst of the ocean.

Kartik, Shyam, and the lord of the ganas — this scene, no one can fully describe.

Whenever the gods went and cried out for help, the Lord himself removed their suffering.

Tarak, the demon, caused great havoc; all the gods came together and bowed to you.

At once you sent forth the six-faced one; in the blink of an eye, he struck the demon down.

You destroyed the demon Jalandhar; your great fame is known throughout the world.

You waged war against the demon Tripurasura; with your grace, you saved everyone.

Bhagirath performed great penance; O Purari, you fulfilled his earlier vow by releasing the Ganga.

Among the generous, none is equal to you; your servants sing your praises always.

The Vedas sing the glory of your name; indescribable, without beginning, none has found your true nature.

During the churning of the ocean, a flame appeared; the gods and demons, burning, became distressed.

You showed compassion and came to their aid there; then you came to be called Nilkanth, the blue-throated one.

When Ramchandra performed worship of you, having conquered Lanka, he granted it to Vibhishan.

He was offering a thousand lotuses in worship; then Purari decided to test him.

The Lord kept aside one lotus; the lotus-eyed one wished to worship with that very one.

Seeing this unwavering devotion, Lord Shankar became pleased and granted the desired boon.

Victory, victory, victory to the infinite, imperishable one; he shows grace, dwelling within the heart of everyone.

The wicked constantly torment me; I remain wandering in confusion, and no peace comes to me.

"Save me, save me," O Lord, I cry out; at this moment, come and rescue me.

Take up your trident and strike down my enemies; deliver me from this crisis.

Mother, father, brother — everyone; in times of crisis, no one asks after me.

O Lord, you alone are my hope; come now and remove this great crisis.

You ever give wealth to the poor; whoever asks, receives the fruit.

In what manner shall I offer my praise to you? O Lord, forgive now my shortcomings.

O Shankar, you are the destroyer of crises; the remover of obstacles, the cause of all auspiciousness.

Yogis, ascetics, and sages fix their meditation upon you; Sharada and Narada bow their heads to you.

I bow, I bow, victory, "Namah Shivaya"; even the gods, beginning with Brahma, cannot find your limit.

Whoever recites this with a focused mind — for them, Shambhu becomes a helper.

Whoever is burdened by debt — if they recite this, they become free of it.

Whoever, being childless, holds this wish, certainly obtains Shiva's grace for it.

Let a learned pandit be brought on the thirteenth lunar day; and have a fire-offering performed with full attention.

Whoever always keeps the vow of Trayodashi, no affliction remains in their body.

Offering incense, lamp, and food offering, and reciting this before Shankar,

the sins of many lifetimes are destroyed; and at the end, one attains dwelling in Shivpur.

Ayodhyadas says: my hope rests in you; knowing all, remove all our sorrows.

Magasara chathi hemanta rritu, samvata chausatha jana, astuti chalisa shivahi, purna kina kalyana.
