Overview
On the summit of Mainak Hill on Maheshkhali Island, off the coast at Cox's Bazar. A hilltop Shaiva pilgrimage site that draws thousands to its annual fair.
History
No founding date or antiquity evidence was found in any source consulted. Neither the encyclopaedic article nor the Banglapedia material retrieved gives one. The age of this temple is genuinely open. The older northern part contains two square worship rooms of about 3.35 metres a side, the eastern holding the Adinatha banalinga.
Spiritual Significance
An island hill shrine reached by boat, Adinath is one of the most established Shaiva pilgrimage destinations in the southeast of the country, and the journey to it is part of its character.
