Overview
On the Miruwa hilltop in Pokhara, among the city's oldest and most important temples, described by one source as a principal Shakti site of western Nepal.
History
Sources disagree on both the date and the founder. One gives an establishment around the 1760s with the present structure built in the 1840s; others differ. The disagreement is recorded rather than resolved. The present temple is in shikhara style, which the source notes is considered older than the pagoda form more common in the valley. 2015 earthquake. No earthquake damage was found in the sources consulted. The documented disaster here is the city fire of 1949.
Spiritual Significance
The temple carries its origin in its name: the goddess is Vindhyavasini, brought from Vindhyachal in India, which makes this a marker of how far north the Vindhya goddess tradition travelled and took root.
