verse 1
बाल समय रवि भक्षि लियो तब तीनहुँ लोक भयो अँधियारो। ताहि सों त्रास भयो जग को यह संकट काहु सों जात न टारो।
Bāla samaya ravi bhakṣi liyo taba tīnahum loka bhayo amdhiyāro. Tāhi soṃ trāsa bhayo jaga ko yaha saṃkaṭa kāhu soṃ jāta na ṭāro
देवन आनि करी बिनती तब छाँड़ि दियो रबि कष्ट निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥1॥
Devana āni karī binatī taba chāmṛi diyo rabi kaṣṭa nivāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro
Meaning
In his childhood he swallowed the sun, and all three worlds fell into darkness; the world was struck with terror at this, a calamity none could avert.
The gods came and pleaded, so he released the sun and removed the anguish; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?
verse 2
बालि की त्रास कपीस बसै गिरि जात महाप्रभु पंथ निहारो। चौंकि महा मुनि साप दियो तब चाहिय कौन बिचार बिचारो।
Bāli kī trāsa kapīsa basai giri jāta mahāprabhu paṃtha nihāro. Cauṃki mahā muni sāpa diyo taba cāhiya kauna bicāra bicāro
कै द्विज रूप लिवाय महाप्रभु सो तुम दास के सोक निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥2॥
Kai dvija rūpa livāya mahāprabhu so tuma dāsa ke soka nivāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro
Meaning
Fearing Bali, the monkey-king (Sugriva) dwelt on the mountain, watching the path for the great lord (Rama); startled, a great sage once cursed him -- what thought was there to consider then.
Taking the form of a brahmin, the great lord removed his servant's grief; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?
verse 3
अंगद के सँग लेन गये सिय खोज कपीस यह बैन उचारो। जीवत ना बचिहौ हम सो जु बिना सुधि लाए इहाँ पगु धारो।
Aṃgada ke saṃga lena gaye siya khoja kapīsa yaha baina ucāro. Jīvata nā bacihau hama so ju binā sudhi lāe ihāṃ pagu dhāro
हेरि थके तट सिंधु सबै तब लाय सिया-सुधि प्रान उबारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥3॥
Heri thake taṭa siṃdhu sabai taba lāya siyā-sudhi prāna ubāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro

Going with Angad to search for Sita, the monkey-king (Sugriva) spoke these words: 'We will not survive if you set foot here without news.'
When all grew weary, searching the shore of the ocean, then you brought news of Sita and saved their lives; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?
verse 4
रावन त्रास दई सिय को सब राक्षसि सों कहि सोक निवारो। ताहि समय हनुमान महाप्रभु जाय महा रजनीचर मारो।
Rāvana trāsa daī siya ko saba rākṣasi soṃ kahi soka nivāro. Tāhi samaya Hanumāna mahāprabhu jāya mahā rajanīcara māro
चाहत सीय असोक सों आगि सु दै प्रभु मुद्रिका सोक निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥4॥
Cāhata sīya asoka soṃ āgi su dai prabhu mudrikā soka nivāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro
Meaning
Ravana caused terror to Sita, telling the demonesses to remove her sorrow; at that time, the great lord Hanuman went and slew the mighty demons.
Sita, desiring the fire beside the Ashoka tree, was given the ring by the lord, removing her grief; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?
verse 5
बान लग्यो उर लछिमन के तब प्रान तजे सुत रावन मारो। लै गृह बैद्य सुषेन समेत तबै गिरि द्रोन सु बीर उपारो।
Bāna lagyo ura Lachimana ke taba prāna taje suta Rāvana māro. Lai gṛha baidya Suṣena sameta tabai giri Drona su bīra upāro
आनि सजीवन हाथ दई तब लछिमन के तुम प्रान उबारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥5॥
Āni sajīvana hātha daī taba Lachimana ke tuma prāna ubāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro
Meaning
When the arrow struck Lakshmana's chest, he gave up his life-breath, slain by Ravana's son (Meghnad); then, taking the physician Sushena along with his house, you uprooted the great Drona mountain, O hero.
Bringing the life-restoring herb (Sanjivani) in hand, you saved Lakshmana's life; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?
verse 6
रावन जुद्ध अजान कियो तब नाग कि फाँस सबै सिर डारो। श्रीरघुनाथ समेत सबै दल मोह भयो यह संकट भारो।
Rāvana judha ajāna kiyo taba nāga ki phāṃsa sabai sira ḍāro. Śrīraghu-nātha sameta sabai dala moha bhayo yaha saṃkaṭa bhāro
आनि खगेस तबै हनुमान जु बंधन काटि सुत्रास निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥6॥
Āni khagesa tabai Hanumāna ju baṃdhana kāṭi sutrāsa nivāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro
Meaning
When Ravana, using deceit in battle, cast the serpent-noose over every head, along with Sri Raghunath and the whole army, they fell into delusion -- this was a heavy calamity.
Bringing Garuda (the king of birds) then, Hanuman cut the bonds and removed the terror; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?
verse 7
बंधु समेत जबै अहिरावन लै रघुनाथ पताल सिधारो। देबिहिं पूजि भली बिधि सों बलि देउ सबै मिलि मंत्र बिचारो।
Baṃdhu sameta jabai Ahirāvana lai Raghunātha pātāla sidhāro. Debihi pūji bhalī vidhi soṃ bali deu sabai mili maṃtra bicāro
जाय सहाय भयो तब ही अहिरावन सैन्य समेत सँहारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥7॥
Jāya sahāya bhayo taba hī Ahirāvana sainya sameta saṃhāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro
Meaning
When Ahiravana, along with his brother, secretly carried Raghunath (Rama) away to the netherworld, they planned with counsel to worship the goddess and offer sacrifice, all agreeing on this plan.
Going there, you became his help and destroyed Ahiravana along with his army; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?

काज कियो बड़ देवन के तुम बीर महाप्रभु देखि बिचारो। कौन सो संकट मोर गरीब को जो तुमसों नहिं जात है टारो।
Kāja kiyo baṛa devana ke tuma bīra mahāprabhu dekhi bicāro. Kauna so saṃkaṭa mora garība ko jo tumasoṃ nahiṃ jāta hai ṭāro
बेगि हरो हनुमान महाप्रभु जो कुछ संकट होय हमारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥8॥
Begi haro Hanumāna mahāprabhu jo kucha saṃkaṭa hoya hamāro. Ko nahiṃ jānata hai jaga meṃ kapi saṃkaṭamocana nāma tihāro
Meaning
You have done great deeds for the gods, O great hero and lord -- consider and behold; what calamity of mine, poor as I am, is there that cannot be averted by you.
Remove swiftly, O Hanuman, great lord, whatever calamity may be mine; who in this world does not know your name, O monkey, Sankatmochan?

Your red body glows with a ruddy hue, and you bear a red tail; with a body like a thunderbolt, destroyer of demons -- victory, victory to the hero among monkeys!
