Overview
Prem Mandir ("Temple of Divine Love"), on the outskirts of Vrindavan, is a large, entirely modern temple complex dedicated to Radha-Krishna and Sita-Rama, built by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj. Constructed over roughly 12 years and inaugurated in 2012, the temple is built almost entirely of Italian marble and has become one of Braj's most visited sites, particularly known for its elaborate evening illumination and fountain displays.
History
The temple's origin traces to a personal vow made by Shri Kripalu Maharaj in 1946, at the age of 24, to one day build a grand temple in Vrindavan dedicated to divine love. The foundation stone was laid on 14 January 2001 before thousands of devotees, and construction, involving around 1,000 artisans working with Italian marble, took approximately 12 years and an estimated cost of around ₹150 crore. The completed temple was inaugurated across a multi-day ceremony from 15 to 17 February 2012.
Spiritual Significance
Prem Mandir's scale and modern construction make it a distinctive counterpoint to Braj's older, more historically layered temples — representing a specifically 21st-century expression of Vaishnava devotion, built with contemporary resources and design sensibilities while housing traditional deity forms. Its detailed marble carvings depict scenes from Krishna's and Rama's lives throughout the complex, and its evening light-and-water shows have made it a significant devotional and visual experience for a very broad range of visitors, including many who might not otherwise visit a traditional temple.

Pilgrimage Information
When to visit: October to March offers the most comfortable weather; the temple's evening illumination (typically after sunset) is a particular highlight and draws large crowds specifically for that show.
