Overview
Shree Paramhans Dayal Janam Bhumi Mandir marks the birthplace of Shri Swami Advaitanand Ji Maharaj, the founder and first guru of the Paramhans Advait Mat, revered by devotees as Paramhans Dayal Ji and as Dada Gurudev Ji. History
The guru later known as Advaitanand was born here on 5 April 1846, on the day of Ram Navami, and was for that reason given the name Ram Yaad. His father was the scholar Pandit Tulsi Pathak. His mother died within months of his birth and his father when he was five, after which he was raised by his father's disciple Lala Narhari Prasad, who arranged his education in Sanskrit, Hindi and Arabic. At about sixteen he left Chhapra to meditate in the forests of Bihar, beginning the wandering that led eventually to his meeting with Swami Anandpuri at Jaipur in 1883.
The birthplace is today maintained as a shrine by a local trust, recorded as the Shri Paramhans Dayal Janambhumi Mandir Seva Trust. The founding date of the temple structure itself and the trust's history require verification.
Spiritual Significance
For the Paramhans Advait Mat this is the beginning of the lineage in the most literal sense: the place where its first guru was born.
