Meaning

O Raghubir, benefactor of Your devotees; hear our prayer, O Lord.

Whoever holds You in meditation day and night, no devotee is equal to them.

Shiva Himself holds You in his mind in meditation; even Brahma and Indra cannot find Your limit.

Your messenger is the brave Hanuman, whose might all three worlds know.

Hail, hail, hail, O gracious Raghunath; always protect Your saints.

Your arms are mighty and gracious; slaying Ravana, You protected the gods.

You are the lord of the orphaned, Master; You are ever the helper of the humble.

Even Brahma and the gods cannot find Your limit; the Lord always sings Your glory.

Bharat is witness to all four proofs; You preserved the honour of Your devotees.

Sharda sings Your virtues in her mind; even Indra cannot find their limit.

Whoever takes Your name, none is as blessed as they.

The name of Ram is beyond all measure; all four Vedas proclaim it aloud.

You took up the name of Ganapati, and made him the first among those worthy of worship.

Shesha ceaselessly repeats Your name; on his head he bears the weight of the earth.

That burden remains for him as light as a flower; none can find the measure of it.

Bharat holds Your name in his heart; because of it he is never defeated in battle.

The name Shatrughna shines in his heart; remembering it, the enemy is destroyed.

Lakshman is ever obedient to You, always guarding Your saints.

Therefore none has won in battle against him; even Yama cannot prevail if a fight arises.

You bear the form of Mahalakshmi too; in every way You reduce sin to ash.

Sita sang of Ram, the pure one; she showed the power of the Ruler of the universe.

She appeared, manifest from the pitcher; seeing her, even the moon feels shy.

Whoever daily massages Your feet, all nine treasures roll at their feet.

The eighteen accomplishments, bringers of auspiciousness, offer themselves to You in devotion.

And whatever other glory there is, Sitapati made it Your own.

By Your mere will, worlds beyond count come into being; creating them takes not even a moment.

Whoever fixes their mind upon Your feet, their liberation is certain to come.

Hear, O Ram, You are our father; You are honoured throughout Bharat's lineage.

You are our family deity; You are the beloved teacher-god of our very breath.

Whatever there is, You alone are king of it; hail, hail, hail, O Lord, preserve our honour.

Ram, You are the sustainer of the soul; hail, hail, hail, beloved of Dasharath.

Hail, hail, hail, O Lord of the form of light; the formless Brahman, whole and beyond compare.

True, true, hail, O Lord true to Your vow; true and eternal, the Knower of all hearts.

Whoever sings this true hymn of Yours obtains, without doubt, all four fruits of life.

You swore a true oath before Gauri's Lord; through devotion You granted all accomplishments.

Give me a heart of knowledge, O form of knowledge itself; salutations, salutations, hail, King of the world.

Blessed, blessed, You are blessed in Your glory; Your name takes away all affliction.

The gods sang this true and pure account with their own mouths; the drum resounded, the conch was blown.

True, true, You are eternally true; You alone are the wealth of our body and mind.

Whoever recites this, knowledge is revealed in their heart.

Their coming and going in this world ceases; Shiva accepts them at their word of truth.

And whatever other wish arises in their mind, they obtain the fruit their heart desires.

Whoever holds this meditation at all three times of day, and offers tulsi leaves and flowers,

and offers greens and leaves as food, that person attains complete accomplishment.

At their final hour they go to the city of Raghubar, where they are called a devotee born of Hari.

Shri Haridas says and sings this; that person attains the abode of Vaikuntha.

राम चालीसा जो पढ़े,राम चरण चित लाय। जो इच्छा मन में करै,सकल सिद्ध हो जाय॥

Rama chalisa jo pa.dhe, rama charana chita laya, jo ichcha mana mem karai, sakala siddha ho jaya.
