Overview
A temple at the foot of Koh-e Asamai, the hill in old Kabul that carries the goddess's name. It is described as among the oldest continuously worshipped Hindu sites in the country, and a sacred fire, the Akhand Jyoti, is said to have burned here for centuries.
History
No excavation or archaeological dating was found. The claims of great antiquity and of an unbroken sacred fire are traditional, repeated across non-academic sources, and are recorded here as tradition rather than as established fact.
Spiritual Significance
A hill in the middle of Kabul named after a Hindu goddess is itself the historical argument: the city's Hindu past is not a footnote to it but written into its geography. The temple is traditionally linked to the Hindu Shahi kings, roughly the ninth and tenth centuries.
