Meaning
Golden-hued, tawny, wearing garlands of gold and silver,
moon-like, made of gold: O Jataveda, summon that Lakshmi for me.
O Jataveda, summon for me that Lakshmi who does not go away,
through whom I may obtain gold, cattle, horses and attendants.
Preceded by horses, seated amid chariots, awakened by the trumpeting of elephants,
I invoke the goddess Shri; may the goddess Shri be pleased with me.
Her of gentle smile, encircled by gold, moist, blazing, satisfied and satisfying,
standing on the lotus, lotus-coloured: that Shri I invoke here.
Moon-like, radiant, blazing with fame in the world, worshipped by the gods, generous Shri,
to that lotus-dweller I go for refuge; let my Alakshmi perish; I choose you.
O sun-hued one, born of tapas is the lord of the forest, your tree, the bilva.
Let its fruits, by tapas, drive away delusion and inner obstacles and the outer Alakshmi.
May the friend of the gods come near me, and fame, together with jewels.
I have been born in this realm; let her grant me fame and prosperity.
I destroy Alakshmi, the elder sister, who is hunger, thirst and impurity.
Drive away all non-being and non-prosperity from my house.
Known through fragrance, unassailable, ever-nourished, abounding in fertility,
ruler of all beings: that Shri I invoke here.
May we obtain the desire and intent of the mind, and the truth of speech.
May the form of cattle and of food, and Shri, and fame, take their abode in me.
By Kardama she became possessed of offspring; O Kardama, be present in me.
Cause Shri, your mother, garlanded with lotuses, to dwell in my family.
Let the waters create moist things; O Chiklita, dwell in my house.
And settle the goddess Shri, your mother, in my family.
Moist, of the lotus pond, nourishment itself, tawny-gold, garlanded with lotuses,
moon-like, made of gold: O Jataveda, summon that Lakshmi for me.
Moist, active, a staff of support, of good gold, garlanded with gold,
sun-like, made of gold: O Jataveda, summon that Lakshmi for me.
O Jataveda, summon for me that Lakshmi who does not go away,
through whom I may obtain abundant gold, cows, maidservants, horses and attendants.
