Overview
On the Rupen river in Patan district. Sources rank it immediately after Shatrunjaya in importance for Shvetambara Jains, and its image is among the most invoked in the tradition's devotional literature. Sect: Shvetambara.
History
Built or renovated in 1098 CE by Sajjan Shah, renovated again in 1229 CE under Vastupala and Tejpal.
Spiritual Significance
The Shankheshwar Parshvanath image has a devotional standing out of proportion to the building around it: it is named constantly in Shvetambara stavans and stotras, which makes this a place of the heart rather than of architecture.
