Overview
Seven interconnected temples inside Jaisalmer Fort, built in yellow desert sandstone rather than the marble used everywhere else in the region, and housing an important Jain manuscript library. Sect: Shvetambara.
History
Built across the twelfth to sixteenth centuries. The Sambhavanatha and Parshvanatha temples carry inscriptions of 1440 and 1416 CE respectively.
Spiritual Significance
The material is the point: the same Maru-Gurjara carving traditions worked in golden sandstone, which changes the whole character of the architecture. The Gyan Bhandar manuscript collection preserved here makes the complex significant to Jain scholarship as well as to pilgrimage.
