Meaning

Mother joined with Bhur, Bhuvah, Svah and Om; Gayatri, ever burning away the stain of the Kali age.

Her twenty-four syllables are supremely sacred; within them dwell the scriptures, the Shrutis, the Gita.

Eternal, of the pure quality of sattva, whose form is truth; true, everlasting, of incomparable nectar; mounted on a swan, clad in white; of golden radiance, pure, wandering the sky.

A book, a flower, a water-pot, a rosary in her hands; of radiant white body, with wide eyes.

Holding her in meditation, the heart thrills with joy; happiness arises, and sorrow and ill-thought are lost.

You are the wish-granting cow, the shade of the celestial tree; the wondrous maya of the formless One.

Whoever takes refuge in you crosses over every trouble.

You are Saraswati, Lakshmi, Kali; your light shines uniquely.

None can reach the end of your glory, though Sharada sing your virtues with a hundred mouths.

Sacred mother of the four Vedas; you are Brahmani, Gauri, Sita.

Of all the great mantras in the world, none equals Gayatri.

Remembering you, knowledge shines within the heart; laziness, sin and ignorance are destroyed.

Seed of creation, mother of the world, Bhavani; Kalaratri, giver of boons, auspicious one.

Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and all the gods gain their awareness from you.

You belong to your devotees, and your devotees are yours; dearer to a mother than her own son's life.

Your glory is boundless; victory, victory, victory, Tripada, remover of fear.

Filled with all knowledge and science; none greater than you has come into this world.

Knowing you, nothing remains unknown; attaining you, no affliction remains.

Knowing you, one becomes you; as base metal, touched by the philosopher's stone, turns to gold.

Your power shines in every place; O Mother, you pervade all locations.

The planets, stars, countless universes — all move, set in motion by you.

Ordainer of the life-breath of all creation; sustainer, nourisher, destroyer, protector.

Sovereign Mother, holder of the vow of compassion; through you even the gravest sinners cross over.

Upon whomever your grace falls, everyone else shows grace too.

The dull-witted gain strength of intellect; the sick become free of disease.

Poverty is erased, every pain is cut away; sorrow is destroyed, worldly dread is removed.

Domestic strife and heavy mental worry — Gayatri, remover of fear, destroys them.

The childless obtain good children; they celebrate joyfully with happiness and prosperity.

Ghosts and evil spirits are all struck with fear; the messengers of Yama do not come near.

Married women who remember you with a steady mind keep their marital happiness ever auspicious.

Unmarried girls attain a good household and husband; widows remain steadfast in truthful vows.

Victory, victory, Jagadamba Bhavani; none is as compassionate or generous as you.

Whoever receives initiation from a true guru makes their spiritual practice succeed.

The fortunate one who remembers you well attains their heart's desire, be they householder or renunciate.

Giver of the eight siddhis and the nine treasures; all-powerful Mother Gayatri.

Sages, ascetics, renunciants, tapasvis, yogis; the distressed, the seekers of wealth, the anxious, the pleasure-seekers —

whoever comes to your refuge obtains the fruit their heart desires.

Strength, intellect, learning, good character and nature; wealth, splendour, fame, radiance and vigor —

all increase, and manifold joys arise, for whoever recites this with focused meditation.
